WILD HORSE

IN THE ROTTEN WEST

A film by Mina Mileva and Vesela Kazakova

2027 ·UK / BULGARIA / FRANCE · COLOR · 104 MIN

Jerome is eighteen, Eastern European, and constitutionally incapable of saying what people want to hear. Raised on Soviet propaganda he never once believed, he arrives in London chasing something he can't quite name, somewhere between freedom and a fresh start. He falls into Ryland Mosley College, finds himself briefly, intoxicatingly popular, his bluntness mistaken for courage and his jokes for social commentary. But the culture wars swirling around him have their own grammar, their own rules about who gets to say what, and Jerome keeps breaking them without noticing. While his new friends argue passionately over the language of justice, something quieter is unfolding beneath the noise; a Russian oligarch is steadily acquiring the institution, welcomed by everyone as a symbol of progress. Jerome is the only one who sees it for what it is. He becomes a whistleblower, but nobody listens.
